So, I now have one solution that works but I don't feel secured with the encryption turned off. Result: grey blank screen with X cursor (regardless of the vino security session) Tightvnc server/Vino server (linux) + Remote Desktop (windows): NOT WORKING Solution: gsettings set require-encryption false Type in the name or IP address of the computer you want to connect to. Result: No matching security types! from tightvnc viewer connection On the remote (client) computer: Open the TigerVNC viewer. Very straight forward setup through Desktop Sharing

Vino server (linux) + tightvnc viewer (windows): WORKING if encryption disabled Tightvnc server/xrdp server (linux) + tightvnc viewer (windows): NOT WORKINGĪttempted diagnosis: gnome-fallback, x-windows, gdm, all variations of xstartup files I could find online.

Here is what I found not working and working. I am using vnc and I have tried both tightvnc, xrdp, and default vino services on work computer. Otherwise, we will listen on all network addresses of the machine. So, I have been attempting to access my work computer (Ubuntu 14.04) from home (windows 7). If the option is not specified, then the behavior is as follows: We will only listen on localhost if the sec-types list does not contain any TLS or X509 security types or if the list contains at least one None security type.
